It was the year 2020… borders were closed, and life largely took place indoors. The COVID-19 pandemic held almost everyone in its grip.
Travel was difficult, if not impossible, and so this traveler turned to the digital world.
On YouTube, entire city walks are filmed, and content creators drive through metropolises and quiet streets across the globe with dashcams—taking the viewer along for the ride.
For hours on end, this traveler lay on the couch with a laptop on his lap, discovering new cities and countries, rediscovering beloved destinations.
And so it happened that, at a certain moment, the artist’s eye once again began to perceive dynamics—compositions within the urban landscape that, in the pre-COVID world, would have prompted him to reach for his camera.
This camera became his ‘Shift-Command-3’: a screenshot of the image on his computer.
Thousands upon thousands of images were captured—always in search of that one composition—that experience of stillness within an image, a moment of quiet, and strength in composition.
A new hobby was born; an old one reborn.
